The Calvary Movie Night and Youth Group projects! The Origins Of No Line Cinemas
A few glimpses into my humble beginings...
![]() Take one digital camera, a couple of puppets, a school stop-motion assignment, and a spoof on the coolest new thing on the internet (at the time,) and you get this: The origin of the No Line Cinemas logo and studio- the foundations of where you are right now.
Fall, 2000 (1 MB)
![]() To understand this trailer for an event that never happened, go to www.nitcentral.com/discus > Stargate - SG1, Atlantis, etc. > The Gate Room (a.k.a. The Stargate Sink) > The Penguin Goa'uld Episode > Part 1. Or just take my word for it- a trailer for an imaginary Stargate SG1 episode. The very first No Line Cinemas production to hit the internet, courtesy of Geocities.
April 1, 2004 (3.5 MB)
![]() As a prelude to a taped drama based on a news format, I was given free reign to come up with whatever project I sought to. The result was a chance to experiment with the new Adobe Premiere, and work on my special effects talents utilizing the high technology I had at the time: Adobe Photoshop Filmstrips. This is the first Photoshop-only effects project I created, and the beginning of my earliest effects work.
Christmas, 1999 (3.5 MB)
![]() The beginning of my modern video phase begins here- my first After Effects project, without which I would still be making 'Movie Night, Year 1's and 'The World Doesn't Die Enough's for all eternity. The After Effects class basically involved a set of 'assemble everything precisely to these specifications' assignments- but of course, that bored me. So I had to do something unique. It should be obvious where the project ends and my improvising begins....
Winter 2002 (2.5 MB)
![]() Learning After Effects in school was pretty cut-and-paste; a technical matter of duplicating projects in exact sequence. Where's the fun in, right? So, I scrapped the soundtracks, merged a pair of the projects with my own footage... and my first trailer was born.

The Ben Clapp Insanity Trilogy:
A group of movies so nuts, the get their own category!
![]() A truly bizarre but fun film, made, like all movies with this set of actors, completely as we went along. Good, classic, medieval fun. And Mexican elves.
(For the record, Blaine, our Elf, is deaf, and Ben, when exagerating his mouth movements to facilitate easier lip-reading, sometimes forgets to actually speak aloud. Thus, if you see lip movement with no sound, you are not missing audio- the performer is.)
Summer 2003 (44 MB)
![]() A 'sequel' of sorts to Lord of the Stones (same actor, same location, unrelated story,) and part two of the Ben Clapp Insanity trilogy (so named for our improvisational star.) This is what happens when you turn a personality like Jim Carrey's on steroids lose to create a movie- it's utterly nuts, and largely nonsensical. But fun.
(In response to frequent viewer comments: the sequence that starts around the six-minute mark is intended to be a Baywatch parody- nothing more!!!)
Summer 2004 (60 MB)
![]() Our ultimate epid superhero movie. A story behind every shot, an acting tour-de-force, and the culmination of special effects technology employed in films up to it's point, Project: Stasis is an improvised, costume-based blockbuster, and one of the web-master's personal favorites.
In keeping with tradition, yet another new member of the Clapp Clan makes his debut, randomness abounds, and Ben does what he does best- mugging for the camera, as only he can.
(Note: One minor and unfortunate detraction from this film: Be advised that the audio quality is sometimes very poor- it has been boosted where possible, but some of the dialogue may take multiple viewings to catch.)
Summer 2005 (166 MB)
Bonus Features:
The only other collaboration with Ben and Caleb Clapp for filming projects were a pair of unfinished dramas. The first was based loosely along the concepts that would become Roll Of The Dice... sort of. The second was a cloning-heavy Star Wars Fan Film. Only a small portion of both of these films is as-yet completed, effects done, at the time, all in Photoshop Filmstrips, frame-by-frame. These effects test were mostly without sound, but will be uploaded here as they are found.
